Phoenix City Manager, Jeff Barton, recently held the 2023 City Manager’s Employee Excellence Awards ceremony. We’re proud to share that members of the Housing Department were among those being celebrated! This team led the innovative Leak Detection Pilot Project at Sunnyslope Manor, an affordable senior apartment community. With a goal to reduce water usage by 10-20% at the site, this project supports the city’s commitment to water conservation and sustainability. As Arizona's first toilet leak detection pilot project, the initiative established a precedent and offered a model of water conservation that can be replicated in other public and private properties, aiming for an even greater impact on water savings throughout Phoenix and the entire state!Congratulations, Housing team and all who were involved in implementing this innovative idea! And many thanks to the City of Phoenix for acknowledging and recognizing the hard work and commitment of its employees. #waterconservation #innovation #toiletleaks #leakdetection #employeeexcellence #employeerecognition

City of Phoenix recently held the 2023 City Manager’s Employee Excellence Awards ceremony.🏆 Read on to see how a task force worked together to achieve a significantly difficult goal! 👏👏Beginning in 2022, over 165 households of three mobile home communities faced displacement and risk of homelessness due to private acquisition and redevelopment plans of the mobile home sites. Many residents of these communities contacted the City of Phoenix to seek assistance. In response to these concerns and in coordination with the City Council, the City Manager formed a task force to determine how the City could assist families facing displacement. The team was charged with evaluating all legal and financial assistance the City could offer to the impacted residents. The team also reviewed options to develop long-term strategies to prevent this from happening in the future. To provide immediate solutions, in 2023, the Mobile Home Resident Relocation Team comprised of staff from the Human Services, Housing, @Neighborhood Services departments, and the Office of Homeless Solutions engaged impacted residents in partnership with the Phoenix IDA, Trellis, and Helping Families in Need. This team collaborated with City executives from various departments and provided housing navigation, case management, housing vouchers, and rent and utility assistance to residents displaced from three mobile home parks. As of November 2023, over 160 residents have secured permanent housing with two remaining residents finalizing permanent housing. City staff, including over 45 Human Services Department caseworkers and supervisors, participated in numerous community meetings, resource events, one on one engagement, stakeholder coordination meetings, and provided regular updates to the respective council offices. These City employees consistently exhibited compassion, collaboration, creativity, professionalism, leadership, persistence, and commitment to their jobs and the team’s mission. All impacted households avoided homelessness.#PHXSolutions#homelessness#employeeexcellence#employeerecognition

Helping others helps us! For over 20 years the City of Phoenix Housing Department has offered training and mentorship opportunities to Arizona State University, ASU School of Social Work interns. Beyond fulfilling their graduation prerequisites, the interns acquire hands-on insight within their chosen field, hone interpersonal skills crucial for navigating professional environments, and cultivate essential soft skills like time management, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork. While this relationship enhances their personal and professional development, it also offers invaluable assistance to the Housing Department. Interns help to balance overall employee workload, foster stronger community partnerships, and the City employees who supervise them build management and leadership skills. Phoenix Housing is a brighter team thanks to the fresh ideas and new perspectives brought in by ASU Social Work interns! We’re honored to be a part of their professional journey.#internships #internprograms #mentoring #professionaldevelopment #doworkthatmakesphoenixwork #graduationseason
