Thursday a cliche to say that retirement from a position he has held for a long time marks the end of an era but it true nonetheless Such was the when Joe retirement was an nounced at the Tell City with football coach Jerry LARRY Brewer and former basketball GOINET coach Ed Schultheis is the only omer scnooi in soutnern inuiana that I can think of that has ever had the same football and basketball coaches for a 13 year period Some schools have had the same coach in one "sport for a longer period but not in both Lochmueller and Talley over 69 percent of their games at school corp 29 years 18 as the this year varsity football coacnana tne usi 12 as athletic director (he served in hnth rnnacities forone year) A rx a 4 Li rtri Ivf Azl nuu uulu Ade iiiginj icopccicu by their peers throughout the state one year Lochmueller was president of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and Talley was presidet of the Indiana ootball Coaches Association the same year That is also a rare double for one school Only time will tell if similar longevity and honors are enjoyed by Tell current football coach Mike Spencer and new basketball coach Dave Carney Spencer has already enjoyed quite a bit of success in his three years as head coach and is already an officer in the Indiana ootball Coaches Association And he has been in Tell City's school system 18 years so he certainly have ahistory of moving around The same can be said of Carney who comes to Tell City after 18' years of teaching in the Lebanon school system Spencer at 42 and Carney 39 are young enough to coach for many more years if they want to So maybe they will fill for the next generation similar rples to those Lochmueller and Talley producing sports giving the school filled for a previous generation Eaton
